Breaking Big: Inspirada Builders, City & Kids Dig in for 61-Shovel Salute

The younger residents of Inspirada broke ground on new parks in a big way on January 11, not long after the community’s builders, officials from the city of Henderson and area homebuilding representatives made the initial dirt fly.

Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen and Councilwoman Debra March joined representatives of Inspirada Builders, LLC and more than 200 Inspirada residents to mark the beginning of construction on two new Henderson parks. Potenza and Capriola Parks are being built at a cost of $10.5 million by the Inspirada Builders LLC and then will be turned over to the city of Henderson to operate and maintain upon completion, anticipated for summer 2014. The 61-shovel salute honored the city of Henderson’s 61st birthday, and Mayor Hafen was impressed with the sizable crowd that turned out on a Saturday morning.

“I’ve been to a lot of ground breakings and a lot of grand openings over the years. But generally the groundbreakings aren’t nearly as well attended as the grand openings, so I can hardly wait to see what we will have here with the grand opening,” he said.

Potenza and Capriola Parks will join the current Solista Park within Inspirada to form an integrated system of fitness and recreation options for new and existing residents. Rob McGibney, president of KB Home’s Las Vegas Division, welcomed Inspirada neighbors and city officials to what promised to be the beginning of something special in Henderson.

“These new Henderson parks are part of Inspirada’s planned 85- acre system of parks, trails and open spaces – places to play and explore just outside your front door,” McGibney said. “Although it is our state’s second largest city, Henderson is known for its small-town values. One reason is because of Henderson’s award-winning parks and recreation facilities, where residents have easy access to a healthy and wholesome outdoor lifestyle. That is also our vision for Inspirada.”
